South Africa's Traditional Zulu Culture and Township Tours in the KwaZulu Natal A CULTURAL EXPERIENCE in the beautiful hills of the Drakensberg. Here you will discover the true Zulu heritage and visit with the Zulu people. Your tour guide was born in these hills and he will be able to tell you ancient stories and answer all your questions on Zulu folklore and traditions. Enjoy a hike through the winding foot paths and listen to the sounds of the distant African song.
Feast on traditional African fare at the Mthemba house. Your host Thoko will prepare the meal on an open fire while guests enjoy traditional Zulu beer. For those who would like to get a feel of the rural life in this area you will be welcome to enjoy an overnight stay in Thokos household. You will sleep in a kraal made from clay that was collected from a nearby river. There is no electricity nor running water... the women of the kraal will collect the water from a river which is one kilometre away, carrying the 25 litres of water on their heads back to the kraal.
The Inkosi Mavundla will make sure that the visitor will feel safe by providing one of his guards to watch over the kraal. This is an ancient Zulu tradition as the Inkosi always takes good care of visitors to his area.

Hlatikulu TOUR CULTURAL/TOWNSHIP TOURS
Hlatikulu is a modern township situated in the Drakensberg overlooking the rolling tribal hills beyond. It is home to 15,000 residents, many of whom live in a modern neighbourhood whilst others still live in the yet to be demolished transit village of Tintown.
Here the new South Africa and old tribal customs merge providing a fascinating mixture of old world customs and modern day consumerism.
A cultural tour to Hlatikulu will introduce the visitor to our local community. You will meet traditional leaders, the Inkosi, and spiritual healers, the Sangoma’s. Your hosts Ntombizonke Khowa and Ntombikayise Mthembu, part time workers at the Antbear Guesthouse will provide you with a fascinating account of life in Hlatikulu.
You will visit the Inkosi in his kraal and see where he holds court. They will take you to a training school for the Sangoma’s and Joyce Mkize and her students will enlighten you on their ways and customs. See crafts manufactured by modern and traditional methods and refreshments and a social exchange will be enjoyed in a modern home.
The 3 to 4 hour tour caters for a minimum of four people and has been created by your tour guides in the hope that not only will it be an entertaining experience but create job opportunities for the local community at the same time.
